Recently I heard a radio show caller state, “It is well known that China should be held accountable for their acts of piracy and seizure of American ships.” He is certainly correct. However, I would submit to you that it is also well known that China should be held accountable for their actions when they do not follow the law. In fact, there have been many cases in the past where Chinese seamen were fired upon by US Navy ships for trespassing on Chinese property. Yet, the Chinese leadership flat out denied any such incidents took place.
Now then, I’d like to tell you something: It really doesn’t matter what the Chinese leadership states publicly about events. What I am saying is that there have been many documented incidents in the past where the Chinese leadership was very aware of foreign seamen coming into their territorial waters, boarding the ships, stealing cargo and other criminal activities. Yet, these seamen were allowed to pass through Chinese ports, onshore into China and back again. There have also been numerous instances where Chinese coast guard vessels have forcibly removed foreign vessels from Chinese ports even when the Chinese seamen had observed peaceful protests by the foreign nationals. In fact, many times the Chinese seamen will block the passage through the ports even if there are peaceful protesters onboard the ships.
Therefore, the question remains: How is it that a nation which has such a strong military and has nuclear war capabilities feels the need to hold the Chinese leaders accountable? Why would the Chinese want to diplomatically isolate the United States? You see, in my opinion, this is all a big play by the Chinese leadership to divert attention from their own horrendous human rights abuses and corruption at the top levels of their country. In fact, the current Chinese leader, Xi Jingling, is currently on a trip to Russia and Eastern Europe and they will be traveling to India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
While in India, it is likely that the Chinese officials: will stage a protest against the U.S. for itsorbitant defense dollars. On the other hand, the Chinese fishermen that take advantage of the hospitality and freedom in a developing country such as India are also guilty of human rights abuses. Therefore, I believe that China should be held accountable not only for the actions of their citizens, but for their actions when representing their country before the UN, The World Court and other international institutions. It is time that the whole world stood up to China and boycotted those that trade with them for political reasons.
Today, we cannot sit back and let nations: like China take our intellectual property without consequence. The Chinese communist government does not respect international laws or the human rights of their citizens. For years, the Chinese leadership has been taking part in oppressive political repressions, religious persecution, press suppression, environmental pollution, and violence throughout the world. Therefore, today China should be held accountable for their human rights abuses. If the Chinese communist government was really concerned about their citizens, they would release all of the political prisoners, free all the prisoners who have been mistreated and free the press that has been silenced for too long.
When holding China accountable: now is the time to stand up for the people of China and for the enlightenment that they desperately need. China must be held accountable for the deeds of the people who control their economy and who have stolen our intellectual property. It is time that the international community holds China accountable for its treatment of its citizens and the abuse of human rights. This includes China’s relationship with North Korea.
